Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Ibom Air, George Uriesi, has earned national recognition as one of the distinguished visionaries behind Nigeria’s aviation progress over the past century. He received the honour during the Nigeria Aviation Centenary celebration, which took place at the International Conference Centre in Abuja on 1 December 2025. The event celebrated the exceptional individuals whose dedication helped define the sector’s evolution, and Uriesi featured prominently among the 47 recipients.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Hon. Mohammed Idris, presented the award to Uriesi, who was praised for his exceptional influence across multiple areas of aviation development. His recognition reflects a career that spans thirty-four years and includes steady contributions to airline operations, airport management, regulatory oversight, and aviation leadership both in Nigeria and abroad. Before assuming the role of Acting MD/CEO of Ibom Air, Uriesi functioned as the Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer. His earlier achievements include serving as Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, where he introduced reforms aimed at strengthening airport efficiency and improving passenger experience nationwide. In addition, Uriesi spent several years in South Africa’s aviation system, contributing to regulatory development and airport operations. Therefore, his honour at the centenary event resonated strongly with observers who view him as a model of commitment and leadership.
