New aviation policy powerhouse, the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE) saw outgoing President, Engineer Galadima Abednego, handing over to newly inaugurated President, Captain Bunmi Gindeh, during the association’s inaugural meeting in Abuja on Tuesday December 2, 2025, marking a new chapter in NAAPE’s journey in Nigeria’s aviation sector.

The National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE) has signalled a decisive shift from traditional labour advocacy to a more assertive role as an aviation policy powerhouse. Its newly elected National Executive Council held its inaugural meeting in Abuja yesterday, marking a historic milestone for the association.

President Captain Bunmi Gindeh described the session as a “significant milestone” and said it ushers in forward-looking leadership aimed at transforming the professional landscape for pilots and engineers across Nigeria. He stressed that NAAPE is positioning itself to influence aviation regulation, safety standards, technical training, and local content development, solidifying its status as an aviation policy powerhouse.

Gindeh highlighted the critical role of NAAPE’s members as the “backbone of flight safety, operational excellence, and technological advancement.” He told the council that they form the “engine room” tasked with delivering results in four areas: protecting members’ interests, engaging constructively with stakeholders, fostering professional development, and ensuring institutional sustainability, key functions of an aviation policy powerhouse.

Congratulating the newly elected officials, Gindeh said their election reflected the “trust and confidence” of the membership. He emphasised that they were chosen not only for their expertise but also for their dedication to NAAPE’s ideals. He urged the council to operate with wisdom, unity, and unwavering commitment, strengthening the association’s role as a national aviation policy powerhouse.

The meeting also honoured past leaders who laid a solid foundation for the association. The new council pledged to build on that legacy while embracing reforms, signalling continuity and innovation essential for any true aviation policy powerhouse.

In a strong call to action, Gindeh reminded the council that their decisions would “directly impact not only our members but also the safety and efficiency of air travel in our nation.” He framed the council’s work as a matter of national importance, extending far beyond internal union administration.

Industry observers say the constitution of the council points to a more strategic, outward-looking NAAPE. Analysts expect heightened engagement in policy debates on training standards, local content for technical personnel, workforce development, and alignment with global best practices. With its multi-pronged agenda, the association is moving beyond traditional labour roles and firmly establishing itself as an aviation policy powerhouse shaping Nigeria’s aviation future.
