The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has assured the public that with its enhanced safety surveillance, the NCAA enhanced safety surveillance has significantly improved the safety of Nigeria’s airspace. This statement was made by the Acting Director General of Civil Aviation, Capt. Chris Najomo, during the staff’s annual New Year prayers at the Authority’s corporate headquarters in Abuja. The occasion also marked the beginning of a series of activities to celebrate the NCAA’s 25th anniversary.
Capt. Najomo emphasized that the increased safety measures were a direct response to the need to address existing safety issues within the airspace. According to him, the Authority is committed to ensuring that air travel is safe, with constant monitoring and improvement. “The Renewed Hope agenda from the President and the five key points agenda from the Minister have given us the opportunity to perform better, and we will continue to do so,” Capt. Najomo added.
He further reassured attendees that the NCAA would continue to enforce strict compliance among airlines. “We recently sanctioned five airlines for failing to issue ticket refunds, and they have committed to making timely payments,” he stated, emphasizing the Authority’s commitment to holding airlines accountable for customer service. “In 2025, we expect improvements, and we are determined to make air travel safer for all,” he added confidently.
On the topic of staff performance, Capt. Najomo made it clear that despite any external challenges, including fabricated attacks, his focus on delivering results remains steadfast. “The attacks are not affecting my work. I am resolute in my role, and when the time comes, Mr. President will do what’s necessary,” he assured his colleagues. His resolve in the face of adversity highlighted his commitment to the Authority’s goals.
He also spoke about the NCAA’s continued investment in staff welfare, stating that his management was dedicated to providing the best working conditions possible. “We are fully digitalizing, with solutions like the flight data center, CPD portal, and DATR portal, making operations more efficient,” Capt. Najomo explained. These initiatives are part of a broader effort to streamline processes and improve the overall functioning of the organization.
The event concluded with the hoisting of the NCAA @25 flag and the unveiling of an anniversary monument. Capt. Najomo, accompanied by his management team and NCAA staff, proudly celebrated the milestones of the organization, marking a bright future for aviation safety in Nigeria.
