Experts meet to discuss Nigeria’s aviation survival strategies at the upcoming League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC) 28th Annual Conference chaired by Dr. Thomas Ogungbangbe.

Dr. Ogungbangbe, an international energy strategist will direct affairs at the conference scheduled for Friday, July 26, 2024, at the Providence Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos.

He boasts extensive experience in the aviation fuel sector. Previously, he served as General Manager of Aviation Business at MRS Oil and Gas. Later, he was Aviation Marketing Manager at Chevron. He has also held leadership positions at Aviation Air and Land Services (now Asharam Aviation) and the Sahara Group. Notably, Dr. Ogungbangbe has demonstrably contributed to the Nigerian aviation industry. He participated in a Federal Government committee on aviation fuel pricing and product availability and holds a jet fuel airfield inspector rating from IATA.

The conference theme, “Aviation Survivability Amidst A Challenging Macro-Economic Environment,” reflects the current economic realities in Nigeria. Nigeria’s Aviation Survival Strategies will be addressed by a distinguished panel including Capt. Samuel Caulcrick, former Rector of the Nigeria College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, and Dr. Alex Nwuba, Second Vice President of the Aviation Safety Round Table Initiative (ASRTI). Dr. Richard Aisuebeogun, former Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), will moderate the panel discussion.

The challenging economic climate has exacerbated existing constraints in Nigerian aviation. These constraints include limited access to foreign exchange, a weakening currency, high fuel costs, and inadequate airport infrastructure. Additionally, regulatory issues, growing manpower demands, the need for technological upgrades, and passenger comfort concerns require industry stakeholders’ immediate attention.

The LAAC, Nigeria’s aviation media umbrella organization, actively promotes effective media coverage and practices within the aviation industry. The LAAC Annual Conference influences positive change in Nigerian aviation by fostering public discussion on policy, management, and operational issues. The conference also presents valuable sponsorship opportunities for aviation and allied businesses. This year’s edition promises to be another successful platform for industry collaboration.
