Turbulence on Qatar Airways flight QR017 from Doha to Dublin injured 12 people. Dublin Airport confirmed that six passengers and six crew members were hurt during the incident. This comes just five days after a deadly turbulence event on a Singapore Airlines flight.
The turbulence struck while the aircraft flew over Turkey. “Qatar Airways flight QR017 from Doha landed safely as scheduled at Dublin Airport shortly before 13.00 on Sunday. Upon landing, the aircraft was met by emergency services, including Airport Police and our Fire and Rescue department, due to six passengers and six crew reporting injuries after the aircraft experienced turbulence while airborne over Turkey,” the airline stated.
Emergency services greeted the aircraft upon arrival at Dublin Airport. They provided medical attention to the injured passengers and crew members. The Dublin Airport team continues to offer full assistance on the ground to everyone involved.
Qatar Airways announced that the incident is now subject to an internal investigation. “The safety and security of our passengers and crew are our top priority,” the airline emphasized in its statement. They confirmed that the Boeing B787-9 landed safely and that those injured are receiving medical care.
This incident is the second turbulence-related event in recent days. Previously, a Singapore Airlines flight carrying 211 passengers experienced severe turbulence, which resulted in the death of a 73-year-old British man and left 20 others in intensive care. Passengers and crew on that flight sustained serious injuries, including skull, brain, and spine damage.
The aviation community remains on high alert, as these incidents highlight the unpredictable and hazardous nature of turbulence.
