
Mrs. Ijeoma Blessing Nwosu-Igbo retired from service after more than two decades in service at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) leaving behind a lasting legacy.
The General Manager, Public Affairs officially bowed out during a Pen-Down ceremony held at FAAN Headquarters in Lagos. The event celebrated a communication strategist whose contributions helped shape the public image of Nigeria’s aviation industry. Colleagues, aviation stakeholders and media professionals gathered to honour a career marked by dedication, professionalism and steady leadership.
Nwosu-Igbo Career Journey at FAAN
Mrs. Nwosu-Igbo joined FAAN in August 2002 as a Senior Public Affairs Officer on Grade Level 10. Through consistent hard work and commitment, she steadily rose through the ranks to become General Manager, Public Affairs.
Over the years, Nwosu-Igbo played a vital role in strengthening the authority’s communication framework. Her work focused on improving media relations, enhancing stakeholder engagement and projecting the organisation’s corporate image. Therefore, her efforts significantly contributed to shaping public narratives around Nigeria’s aviation sector.
Strengthening Aviation Communication and Public Trust
As General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs. Nwosu-Igbo coordinated FAAN’s corporate communication strategy. She supervised media activities, ensured accurate information dissemination and maintained transparency in the authority’s operations.
Meanwhile, her leadership style emphasised professionalism and innovation. Under her watch, FAAN strengthened its engagement with journalists, industry stakeholders and the travelling public. These efforts helped reinforce the credibility of the aviation sector and improved understanding of airport operations nationwide.
For aviation regulatory guidance and global best practices, stakeholders often rely on organisations such as the International Civil Aviation Organization.
Colleagues Celebrate Nwosu-Igbo’s Service

During the ceremony, FAAN officials and aviation stakeholders praised the contributions of Nwosu-Igbo to the authority.
The Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr. Henry Agbebire, described her as an exceptional professional and an enigma. He noted that although he worked with her briefly since September 2023, her dedication to duty was evident. Therefore, he wished her a fulfilling and enjoyable retirement after years of meritorious service.
Similarly, the General Manager, Consumer Protection, Barrister Monica Alphonsus commended her resilience and commitment. She observed that Nwosu-Igbo gave her best to the system and successfully rose to the rank of General Manager. In addition, she highlighted the retiree’s habit of maintaining strong relationships with colleagues and former supervisors.
A Professional Known for Mentorship and Collaboration
Tributes also came from former Director of Administration at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, Mrs. Elemanya Ebila. She fondly recalled Nwosu-Igbo’s vibrant personality and musical talent, noting that colleagues would miss her singing voice in the office corridors.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Gladys Omotosho, representing the Director of Human Resources and Administration, read the retiree’s citation. She praised Nwosu-Igbo for her commitment and advised younger FAAN personnel to emulate her work ethic and dedication.
In addition, the General Manager, Revenue, Mrs. Caroline Uwabor emphasised the importance of leaving a positive impact while occupying public office. According to her, the legacy of service often becomes the lasting testimony of any career.
Media Community Applauds Nwosu-Igbo
The Chairman of the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC), Mr. Idris Suleiman, also commended Nwosu-Igbo for fostering strong relations between FAAN management and aviation journalists.
He noted that her tenure ensured open communication between the authority and the media. Therefore, members of LAAC presented her with a goodwill gift in appreciation of her cooperation and support throughout her career.
Emotional Farewell for Nwosu-Igbo
An emotional Mrs. Nwosu-Igbo thanked colleagues, friends and family members who attended the ceremony. She expressed appreciation to members of LAAC for their gesture and commended the Public Affairs Department for organising the Pen-Down event.
Her children were present at the ceremony, which further highlighted the personal significance of the occasion. Meanwhile, FAAN’s Director of Cargo Development and Services, Mr. Olalekan Thomas, also attended the celebration in honour of her service.
As Nwosu-Igbo closes this chapter, FAAN celebrates a professional whose dedication, integrity and passion for public communication have left a lasting imprint on Nigeria’s aviation industry.
