The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) is set to unveil the 2025 Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP) on Tuesday, 4th February 2025. This event, which will focus on ‘The Role of Early Warnings towards a Climate Resilient Aviation Industry for Sustainable Socio-Economic Development,’ is crucial for stakeholders in various sectors, including agriculture and aviation. The annual 2025 Seasonal Climate Prediction provides forecasts on key climatic variables, such as rainfall and temperature, which influence many industries in Nigeria, particularly those in aviation.

NiMet’s 2025 Seasonal Climate Prediction document serves as an essential tool for policymakers and the general public. This year’s SCP will outline detailed predictions that include the timing of the rainy season, expected rainfall amounts, and temperature trends from January to May 2025. Additionally, the document will highlight regional variations across all 774 Local Government Areas, which will help local governments and businesses prepare for weather-related challenges.

Professor Charles Anosike, NiMet’s Director General and CEO, emphasized the significant role of the SCP in helping to guide decision-making in various sectors. He mentioned, “The SCP provides critical weather and climate information that affects agriculture, aviation, disaster management, health, and more.” By using this data, industries can better anticipate and adapt to environmental shifts, ensuring continuity and resilience. NiMet’s predictions offer valuable insights into how climate trends may impact national growth and sustainability, especially in sectors like aviation, where weather plays a vital role in daily operations.

The public presentation of the SCP is a highly anticipated event, attracting attendees from various sectors, including government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and the diplomatic community. Stakeholders from different sectors of the economy, including agriculture, aviation, and health, eagerly await the insights provided by the forecast. This gathering fosters collaboration between the public and private sectors, as well as international development partners.

During the event, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo SAN, will present the SCP document, highlighting its importance to the aviation industry and other stakeholders. The document will also be made available in translations of three major Nigerian languages, making it accessible to a broader audience. The presentation will be followed by an in-depth analysis of Nigeria’s climate status, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the forecast’s implications for all sectors involved.

In conclusion, the unveiling of the 2025 Seasonal Climate Prediction by NiMet is an important event for Nigeria. It provides crucial weather data to help various industries plan for the year ahead, especially the aviation sector, which relies heavily on accurate climate predictions for operational efficiency. By incorporating early warnings, NiMet aims to build a climate-resilient aviation industry that contributes to sustainable socio-economic development in the country.
