Nigeria and Brazil have signed a critical bilateral air service agreement (BASA). This landmark agreement establishes a new framework for direct air links.
It opens fresh avenues for trade, tourism, and investment between the two nations.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed the landmark BASA. It happened during a two-day state visit to the Federative Republic of Brazil
President Tinubu and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil emphasized deepening ties between both countries.
A statement was made available by Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Tunde Moshood. It said President Tinubu was warmly received in Brasília.
This marked a significant step in strengthening bilateral ties between Africa and South America’s largest economies.
The major highlight was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, signed it with Brazil’s Minister of Transport, Silvio Costa Filho.
The signing was in the presence of both Heads of State.
The BASA not only offers direct connectivity but also opens the door for people-to-people exchanges. It is expected to foster stronger economic integration.
This agreement will also facilitate cultural ties and enhance diplomatic cooperation.
This agreement is a strategic milestone for President Tinubu’s administration. It underscores his commitment to expanding Nigeria’s global partnerships.
The administration aims to create enabling environments for commerce and mobility.
The Brazilian President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, lauded the partnership. He emphasized Brazil’s readiness, through the BASA, to deepen ties in multiple spheres.
These include aviation, agriculture, and infrastructure development.
The ongoing state visit will also see President Tinubu meeting the President of the Brazilian Senate at the National Congress.
He will also meet the President of the Chamber of Deputies. A meeting with the President of the Supreme Federal Court is also scheduled.
The President led a powerful delegation on the trip. Senior cabinet members accompanied him. These include Minister of Finance, Mr. Olawale Edun, among others.
The working visit will also feature high-level engagements between Nigerian and Brazilian delegations.
These engagements will span various sectors. This visit underscores both nations’ commitment to mutual growth and prosperity.
