Tomorrow, Friday November 22, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) will launch a consumer awareness programme designed to empower air travellers in Abuja. The initiative aims to sensitise passengers about their rights, duties, and responsibilities to enhance their travel experiences. As part of this effort, the NCAA will promote the recently launched AI-driven consumer rights platform. This programme underscores the Authority’s commitment to bridging knowledge gaps that often lead to dissatisfaction among domestic and international travellers.
The dual-event initiative will be facilitated by consultancy firms at two Abuja locations to maximise audience reach. Pliance Global Aviation Limited will host the National Civil Aviation Stakeholder Awareness Summit at the Federal Secretariat, Shehu Shagari Way. Meanwhile, Brisk Systems Limited, a reputable digital technology firm, will lead the Consumer Protection Digital Innovation Stakeholder Awareness Programme at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. Scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM, the events will include roadshows and highlight demonstrations from the AI-driven consumer rights platform. Furthermore, key informant interviews and interactive stakeholder town hall engagements will ensure participants gain valuable insights into consumer rights and responsibilities.
Studies by the Consumer Protection Directorate reveal significant gaps in passengers’ understanding of their rights and responsibilities. For instance, many travellers remain unaware that flight delays caused by natural phenomena absolve airlines and airport authorities of blame. The upcoming summit aims to address these knowledge gaps, fostering better relationships between travellers, airlines, and aviation agencies.
Speaking on the programme, Captain Chris Ona Najomo, NCAA’s Director General, emphasized its role in rebuilding trust among air travellers. “The goal is to create an informed air travel community while ensuring service excellence across the aviation sector,” he stated. Additionally, by prioritising consumer education and awareness, the NCAA aims to significantly enhance the aviation industry’s contribution to national economic growth.
One of the summit’s key objectives is to enforce consumer rights while cultivating a culture of accountability and collaboration. Through this inclusive approach, the NCAA hopes to entrench efficiency and service excellence throughout Nigeria’s aviation value chain. The event will set the stage for dialogue among critical stakeholders, ensuring long-term improvements in air travel operations.
