THE National Assembly Joint Committee on Aviation today said with the powers it vested in the Nigerian Meteorological Agency ( NiMet) Bill once accented into Act by the President will enable the agency commercialise its service.
This is just as they commended the performance of NiMet and it’s predictions stating that the agency has been doing well in recent time.
Senator Smart Adeyemi who gave the commendation said that the entire country now depends on the agency to know the situation of the weather as it stands.
He said,” I commend the performance of NiMet because I monitor your predictions and I am sure Captain Nuhu will not dispute the fact that NiMet is one of the best agencies.
” They’ve done very well and that is because of their performance. I am particularly in happy that NiMet will be expanding this year. One of this things we did in the NiMet Bill is to make sure it can effectively cover the country and at the same time commercialise its services
Particularly, I derive pleasure monitoring their outputs. Your services, Prof, is needed by everyone, I’m sure every Nigerian wants to know what the weather is like tomorrow to enable them plan their activities and by the time the Act is a reality, I am sure you can cover more. Your appointment bis justified, we hope you continue in this direction,” Adeyemi said.
The Senator however said that as NiMet expands it would create more jobs and that as unemployment has become a challenge, it should open up adequate avenues for the welfare of those it would require during expansion.
