Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, may be considering granting Algeria Fifth Freedom Rights for its Algiers–Abuja–Douala route. Algerian Ambassador H.E. Mezoued Hochine visited the minister to fast-track Air Algérie’s scheduled launch on April 6, marking its seventh route in Africa. The four-word key phrase “Algiers Abuja Douala route” highlights the importance of this development.
If approved, the Algiers–Abuja–Douala flight route will operate under Fifth Freedom Traffic Rights in air service agreements. This allows an airline to transport passengers between two foreign countries, provided the flight originates or ends in its home country.
Keyamo welcomed the proposal, emphasizing its potential to boost regional connectivity, trade, and tourism. He stated:” My heart is filled with joy because this route connects Abuja to Douala and Algiers, fostering regional integration and economic growth.”
Reaffirming his full support, Keyamo assured the ambassador of a smooth approval process. He urged him to report any officials attempting to delay the airline’s operations, reinforcing his commitment to a seamless launch.
The Algiers Abuja Douala route will ease travel for Nigerians heading to Douala, providing a more accessible and efficient option.
