XeJet Flight, inbound from Abuja, experienced a runway excursion, XeJet Flight skids off runway 18L/36R of Murtala Muhammed Airport. The aircraft involved is an Embraer 145 aircraft, tail number 5N-BZZ.
This incident comes barely one month of Dana Air’s excursion on same Runway. Initial reports indicate that the plane veered off into the grass verge upon landing, near taxiway B5, at approximately 11:29 AM on May 11, 2024.
Fortunately, all 53 passengers aboard the flight emerged unscathed, thanks to the swift response of Fire and Rescue teams stationed at the airport.
However, authorities have temporarily closed the runway designated as 18L/36R to traffic pending further investigation and cleanup efforts.
Sources close to the incident revealed that the aircraft suffered damage to two of its tires during the incident.
The Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) issued a statement acknowledging the incident. They have deployed a go-team to assess the damage and determine the runway excursion’s cause. Airlines are advising passengers to check for flight schedule updates and alternative arrangements at MMA.
