The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has clarified that the tragic murder of Mrs. Chinwendu Amadi did not occur within the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport (SMICA) in Owerri. In response to the publication titled “Pregnant Woman Raped to Death at Imo Airport,” FAAN provided detailed insights on the night’s activities around the airport. According to FAAN, officials discovered the woman’s body near Runway 17, outside the airport premises, bordering the Umueze community. On October 18, 2024, a group of youths from Awaogwu Logara, a nearby village, reported the incident to Aviation Security (AVSEC) officers.

The youths were combing the bush paths around the airport in search of a missing community member. Consequently, their search led to the tragic discovery of the woman’s body near Runway 17. FAAN promptly alerted all relevant security operatives, including the Airport Commandant and Divisional Police Officer (DPO), to launch a comprehensive investigation into the case.

Inspector Vincent N., who led the investigative team from Umuneke Division, Ngor Okpala Local Government, observed that the victim had sustained multiple stab wounds to the abdomen. However, no blood splatters or signs of a struggle appeared at the location where investigators recovered the body of Mrs. Amadi. This absence strongly suggests that someone murdered her elsewhere and later transported the body to the Runway 17 vicinity. FAAN night guards, during interrogation, reported no suspicious activity in the area before the discovery.

The police have since taken possession of the body for further forensic examination. FAAN has appealed to the public for any information that could assist in unraveling this unfortunate incident, urging them to contact the appropriate authorities immediately. They stressed that the perpetrators of this heinous act must face the full consequences of the law.
