The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and indigenous airlines have agreed on critical airport infrastructure improvements and revenue collection digitalization. These measures aim to enhance operations at the nation’s airports, benefiting passengers and airlines alike.
Participants reached this resolution in an August 13, 2024, meeting at the New Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. The meeting had executives from 20 airlines in attendance.
In a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, the resolutions include more frequent meetings and quicker responses to airline correspondence. They highlighted airport infrastructure improvements and digitalizing revenue collection as essential steps to drive efficiency.
Indigenous airlines under the aegis of the Airline Operators of Nigeria praised FAAN’s Chief Executive, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, for her dedication to driving positive change at federal airports.
Vice President of the AON and Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace, Dr. Allen Onyema, voiced this commendation. Dr. Onyema emphasized that AON members appreciate how FAAN and the Aviation Minister, Mr. Festus Keyamo, have approached airport management.
“When the government does what is wrong, you can say it, but what is happening in FAAN is commendable,” said Onyema. “The desire to do good is very, very transparent. You can see it. So, why won’t we have confidence in the system? This is no more fighting time; this is time for collaboration.”
Earlier, Mrs. Kuku had briefed AON members on FAAN’s airport development plans while welcoming feedback from operators. She expressed a commitment to improving services for both operators and passengers.
Additionally, Kuku outlined her priority areas for immediate implementation: safety, security, culture transformation, digital transformation, service quality, and revenue generation. She emphasized that collaborating with AON is crucial for FAAN to become a top airport management company in sub-Saharan Africa.
