A military aircraft belonging to the Nigeria Air force enroute Minna from Abuja has crashed short of the Abuja runway in a place called Bassa killing all passengers onboard.
The aircraft, NAF20, a King Air B350 aircraft departed Abuja at 1033UTC with seven(7) persons is reported to have suffered engine failure at 1039UTC just a few minutes into the flight and crash landed on the final Approach path of Abuja Runway 22 at 1048UTC.
Fire services are said to be on the scene putting out the fire.
Meanwhile confirming the crash, the Minister of Aviation said “A military aircraft King Air 350 has just crashed short of our Abuja runway after reporting engine failure enroute Minna. It appears to be fatal. We should remain calm and wait for the outcome of investigation by our military, while we pray for the departed soul/souls if any.”
The Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) in a short statement has however revealed that by the power establishing the AIB-N, it does not investigate military incidents or accidents except where invited, please direct all inquiries to the appropriate environment.
