In this current era of scarce funds and rising exchange rate, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo wants to lead a revenue drive hinged on some untapped areas at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria ( FAAN).
This follows resolutions from part of his findings as he toured the General Aviation Terminal ( GAT) repurposed for domestic flights noting that the airport is an untapped goldmine.
Keyamo told the FAAN management team that they needed to get cracking by maximising already existing space with electronic adverts which will not only provide further aesthetics for the airports but generate the much needed revenue.
According to Keyamo, the Federal Government’s desire to optimize the generating capacity of FAAN especially from Lagos cannot be overstated as he reiterated that the Lagos Airport accounts for 60% revenue of FAAN
He told FAAN, ” In a few weeks I want FAAN to erect advertising signs around the GAT. Airports are revenue generating facilities and we should be able to give out space for adverts and those places will be maintained by whichever company you deem fit after the process. I need this done in a couple of weeks, it isn’t the same Government bureaucracy we have to get revenue into our purse.” He stressed.
“Once you are driving into a local airport anywhere in the world you notice there will be life. This is what I want, life and activities. You need to explore the options to be used for advertising
“I want to see all local airports light up and become hub of activities starting with the GAT,” he said.
During the inspection he gave a week’s directive to FAAN to take care of the eyesore at the baggage area which he declared was unfair to the passengers and also harped on simple maintenance of facilities, trimming of shrubbery to bring about aesthetics of the airport.
