Nigeria Immigration Chief Visits Borders, Seeks Community Support

In a continued effort to strengthen Nigeria’s borders, Comptroller General of Immigration (CGI) Kemi Nandap recently embarked on an assessment tour.  Nandap visited border communities in Katsina and Jigawa states, inspecting ongoing e-border projects and holding discussions with critical stakeholders. 

Her itinerary included Fago Patrol Base, Daura Forward Operating Base, Kongolam Border Control Post in Katsina, and Magatari Control Post in Jigawa, as reported in a statement signed by DCI Kenneth Udo, Service Public Relations Officer.

Nandap emphasized the importance of community cooperation. in safeguarding the vast unmanned areas along the borders. She met with traditional leaders, youth leaders, transport unions, and market women, educating them on the dangers of human trafficking. She urged them to report any suspicious activity involving irregular migrants.

Collaboration with other security agencies was another key focus. Comptroller General of Immigration highlighted the importance of a unified approach, stating, “A safe border is a safe nation.”  Her commitment to collaboration extended beyond immigration, as evidenced by her courtesy visits to former President Muhammadu Buhari and the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouk.

Back at the border posts, Nandap addressed immigration officers.  She stressed the importance of professionalism and vigilance in their duties. She also provided reassurance of federal government’s commitment to improving officers’ working conditions.

Nandap’s proactive approach signifies a multi-pronged strategy for border security. By leveraging technology, community engagement, the NIS is determined to effectively manage the nation’s borders.
