Founder and Chairman of F.C.I International, Fortune Idu, confirmed Kuku’s victory, citing her transformative impact on Nigeria’s aviation sector.
Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, has emerged as the aviation agency CEO of the year in the 2024 Nigerian Aviation Awards (NIGAV) polls. She secured 35.3% of over 3,500 votes, reflecting her outstanding leadership since assuming office in December 2023.
The award, organized by F.C.I International, will be presented at the 14th Nigeria Aviation Award and Ministerial Dinner on April 11, 2025, at the NIGAV Centre, Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos. In a statement, Idu said, “We are pleased to inform you that following the conclusion of the public nomination and voting process for the 14th Nigeria Aviation Award, you have been popularly voted as the winner of NIGAV Award 2024 for Aviation Agency CEO of the Year.”
He added, “As a mark of significant honor, this award will be presented to you in the presence of our distinguished special guests, including His Excellency Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Executive Governor of Lagos State; Barr. Festus Keyamo, the Honourable Minister of the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace; and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, distinguished Senator George Akume.”
Idu further explained, “The selection process for this year began on February 1, 2025, and involved over 3500 online respondents and votes, making it the most inclusive and credible industry recognition program in Nigeria.”
Kuku’s tenure has been marked by significant infrastructure upgrades and innovative operational reforms. Her efforts have improved airport facilities nationwide, earning accolades for Nigerian airports and easing operational challenges for airlines. Stakeholders have praised her commitment to excellence, making her a deserving recipient of the aviation agency CEO of the year award.
The NIGAV Award is recognized as Nigeria’s most credible aviation industry recognition program. This year’s event will also feature the presentation of the Aviation Year Annual Report, underscoring the sector’s progress under Kuku’s leadership.
