Following the viral video making rounds on the fisticuffs match involving VDM and Mr. Jollof, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is set to wade in with appropriate sanctions. United Nigeria Airlines confirmed that a heated confrontation involving VDM disrupted the boarding of Flight UN0523 at Asaba International Airport on 17 November 2025. The airline said the altercation involved two passengers, Martins Vincent Otse “VeryDarkMan” (VDM) and Freedom Okpetoritse Atsepoyi “Mr. Jollof”. Therefore, its crew acted immediately to protect other passengers and uphold protocol.
According to the Public Relations Officer, Mr. Chibuike Uloka, the incident began during routine boarding. However, the crew intervened without delay to stop the clash. He said the team followed international standards to prevent the situation from escalating further. “Our crew responded professionally and in line with global aviation safety protocols to manage the disruption caused by VDM and Mr. Jollof,” Uloka stated.
He explained that both passengers were deboarded to ensure the safety, comfort, and security of the cabin. In addition, they were handed over to airport security for further evaluation. The airline stressed that its action was necessary because the conduct of VDM and Mr. Jollof posed a risk to other travellers.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has said that both individuals will face sanctions following their physical confrontation aboard the Asaba-Lagos flight. The Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr. Michael Achimugu described the fight as “unacceptable behaviour”, stressing that it endangered passengers, crew, and the aircraft.
“There is no tolerance for unruly behaviour aboard an aircraft. Both individuals will face the full strength of the law,” he said in a post on X.
The NCAA spokesperson noted that influencers carry added responsibility. “It is even more shameful when one considers both of them partners in educating their millions of followers to avoid unruly behaviour.”
He added that the airline is expected to file an official report, after which legal action will follow. “The actions of both men put the safety of all other passengers and the crew at risk. It also put the safety of the aircraft at risk,” he said.
The Authority further stressed its ongoing passenger-education campaigns. “The NCAA has exerted a lot of energy and resources in educating passengers about the dangers of unruly behaviour and its consequences. In this case, no matter what led to the fracas, there is no excuse that makes it acceptable.”
The fight is believed to have stemmed from an online dispute that escalated into a physical clash inside the aircraft cabin, forcing passengers and crew to intervene. VDM later posted a video on Facebook claiming he confronted Mr. Jollof during the altercation, saying, “I don chop Jollof father for inside the plane. He bite me, man wey de bite.”
The NCAA spokesperson said he is still awaiting full details from the airline and airport staff but assured that a comprehensive statement would be released once all facts are verified.
United Nigeria Airlines reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy for onboard or pre-flight disruptions. “Safety remains our highest priority,” Uloka emphasised. “After completing all required procedures, Flight UN0523 departed safely while VDM and the other passenger remained with the authorities.”
The airline added that it will continue to uphold strict safety standards and provide respectful, secure, and dependable service across its network, even when incidents involve high-profile passengers such as VDM.
