United Nigeria Airlines will begin direct flights from Lagos and Abuja to Accra, Ghana, on November 10, 2025, marking its first regional expansion beyond Nigeria.
The airline confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday, describing the new Accra service as a key part of its West African connectivity plan. The route will operate into Kotoka International Airport, Accra, from Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
Chief Operating Officer, Mazi Osita Okonkwo, said the launch of the route represents a major step in the airline’s regional growth strategy.
“Ghana is an important part of our expansion plan. This marks our first operation outside Nigeria,” Okonkwo stated in Lagos. “Over the past four years, United Nigeria Airlines has built a reputation for safety, compliance, customer service, and on-time performance values we will uphold across all regional routes.”
He explained that the Accra service aims to improve air connectivity within West Africa, offering passengers more convenient travel options between Nigeria and Ghana.
“We are bridging the connectivity gap in regional travel,” Okonkwo added. “The Accra route will enhance business and leisure travel while promoting stronger bilateral relations between both nations.”
According to the statement, tickets for the Lagos–Accra–Lagos and Abuja–Accra–Abuja services are now available through the airline’s online portal and accredited agents nationwide.
United Nigeria Airlines also announced plans to introduce additional domestic routes before the end of November. These include new flights between Abuja and Sokoto as well as Abuja and Ilorin, aimed at deepening its presence within the domestic market.
The airline emphasized that its long-term objective is to connect Nigeria with major destinations across West and Central Africa. Industry analysts view the new Accra route as a sign of renewed competition on the West Coast corridor, currently served by other Nigerian carriers such as Air Peace and Asky Airlines.
Aviation observers note that Ghana’s aviation market has become increasingly attractive due to its stable regulatory environment and growing passenger demand. The introduction of United Nigeria Airlines’ Ghana service is expected to further stimulate regional traffic and enhance trade and tourism between both countries.
