The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) Aviation Chapter has called for smart technologies to drive sustainable revenue growth in aviation.

At its monthly Technical Session, held virtually on September 30, 2025, participants stressed that Artificial Intelligence (AI), blockchain, and data analytics could transform aviation finance systems.

They argued these tools can plug leakages, strengthen transparency, and align with the Federal Government’s goal of optimizing revenue generation under the Aviation Minister’s Five-Point Agenda.

The session, themed Leveraging Technology to Boost Aviation Revenue for Improved Public Service Delivery, was hosted by Chairman of ICAN Aviation Chapter, Mr. Ayodele Olatiregun. Presentations were delivered by Engr. Nnamdi Chime, Chief Executive Officer of Avitech Software Solutions, and his co-presenter, Mrs. Titilayo Ogunbanwo, Senior Business Analyst at the firm.

Engr. Chime highlighted that aviation revenue systems often suffer from outdated processes and poor data tracking. He explained that technologies like blockchain can secure payment trails, while AI and analytics can detect fraud patterns and enhance decision-making speed.

Mrs. Ogunbanwo added that accountants must play a strategic role in embedding these solutions into existing frameworks. She stressed that without Chartered Accountants providing oversight, digital tools could fail to deliver lasting transformation.

The presenters drew on global best practices from airports and airlines that had adopted technologies to improve financial accountability. They noted examples from Europe and Asia where data-driven platforms reshaped tax compliance, concession monitoring, and airline billing systems.

Participants engaged actively, reflecting a shared eagerness to apply these ideas within Nigeria’s aviation sector. Many accountants emphasized that adopting technology was no longer optional but essential to secure industry resilience against revenue shocks.

In his closing remarks, Mr. Olatiregun underscored that the aviation sector must embrace innovation if it is to thrive. He urged accountants to apply the session’s lessons at their duty posts, stressing that technologies can improve both individual efficiency and institutional integrity.

He reaffirmed ICAN Aviation Chapter’s commitment to advancing technical expertise among members. According to him, creating knowledge platforms that merge professional development with national economic interest will strengthen Nigeria’s aviation industry in the long run.

By promoting smart technologies, the Aviation Chapter believes Nigeria can close long-standing gaps in revenue collection.

The group maintained that adopting AI, blockchain, and analytics will not only optimize earnings but also foster accountability, transparency, and service delivery across aviation agencies.

The consensus of the session was clear: digital transformation is a decisive step for aviation finance. Without it, leakages will persist. With it, Nigeria’s aviation can secure new levels of growth and resilience.
