Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) PLC has donated vital medical equipment to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). This initiative aligns with SAHCO’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts to support its immediate environment and enhance drug enforcement efforts.

The donated medical equipment included an incubator, centrifuge machine, sphygmomanometer, weighing scale, poison box, lipid profile meter, staining rack, and ambu bags. Several SAHCO management staff participated in the presentation at NDLEA’s MMIA Command.

Executive Director, Cargo Services, Boma Ukwunna, represented Managing Director Adenike Aboderin at the event. She emphasized SAHCO’s concern over drug abuse and praised NDLEA for its efforts in curbing illicit drug activities. She expressed hope that the donated medical items would enhance the agency’s operations.

“In Nigeria and worldwide, drug abuse remains a major challenge,” Ukwunna said. “SAHCO fully supports NDLEA in executing its mandate. This donation, though a token, is a step towards a greater impact.”

Strategic Commander of NDLEA MMIA Command, Usman Wadar, expressed gratitude for SAHCO’s continued partnership. He highlighted that the donated equipment would improve the command’s efficiency and strengthen its operational capacity.

“We have enjoyed great cooperation from stakeholders, particularly SAHCO,” Wadar said. “The synergy between us is invaluable. This medical equipment will support our clinic, ensuring proper care for suspects while upholding their rights.”

Wadar noted that drug abuse remains a pressing issue, citing a 2018 United Nations Drug Survey that estimated 14 million Nigerians had been affected. However, he pointed out that NDLEA’s efforts have led to a decline in illegal drug use. The command seized 21 tonnes of illicit drugs in 2022, 23 tonnes in 2023, but recorded a significant drop to seven tonnes in 2024.

Under Managing Director Adenike Aboderin, SAHCO remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote security and well-being. The company’s collaboration with NDLEA underscores its dedication to corporate responsibility and industry partnerships. As NDLEA intensifies its efforts, SAHCO’s continued support strengthens the collective fight against drug trafficking in Nigeria.
