The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, addressed the media today to clarify his position on the ongoing discussions regarding the National Carrier Project revival. He emphasized that his earlier remarks during the handover ceremony had been misinterpreted, creating unnecessary confusion. “For the avoidance of doubt, I never said there is a mandate to revive the botched Nigeria Air deal with Ethiopian Airlines,” Dr. Kana stated. Instead, he stressed that the administration remains open to considering a national carrier if it aligns with national interests and the directives of Mr. President and the Honourable Minister of Aviation.

The aviation sector has faced significant scrutiny following the collapse of the Nigeria Air project, and Dr. Kana’s clarification provides essential context. He explained that his reference to a National Carrier Project revival was intended to reflect the administration’s broader vision for strengthening Nigeria’s aviation sector. This vision prioritizes transparency, economic viability, and adherence to global best practices in aviation development.

In reaffirming his dedication to the Minister, Dr. Kana stressed the importance of collaborative efforts to advance the aviation ministry’s objectives. “On a personal note, I pledge absolute loyalty to the Honourable Minister and remain dedicated to working closely with him to drive the Ministry’s agenda forward,” he said. His comments signal a strong commitment to ensuring that the aviation sector achieves innovative milestones while remaining aligned with the aspirations of the Nigerian people.

The Permanent Secretary’s clarification underscores the administration’s strategic approach to a National Carrier Project revival, emphasizing that any decision to revisit the initiative would depend on its potential benefits to the nation. As Nigeria navigates the complexities of aviation growth, Dr. Kana remains optimistic that strategic planning and leadership will steer the sector toward sustainable development and enhanced global competitiveness.
