The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has launched a multimodal transport accident investigation training programme aimed at improving investigative efficiency across various sectors. This initiative, which includes participants from the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force alongside NSIB officials, demonstrates the Bureau’s commitment to enhancing safety. Moreover, the programme aligns with Nigeria’s broader strategy to modernise the aviation and transport industries.
Experts from Cranfield University and Buckinghamshire New University in the United Kingdom facilitate the training to equip NSIB and military investigators with essential skills.These renowned professionals offer global best practices, ensuring a multidisciplinary approach that is vital for Nigeria’s rapidly expanding economy. Furthermore, this collaboration fosters cross-sectoral cooperation, which enhances comprehensive knowledge transfer, ultimately improving safety standards.
Captain Alex Badeh Jr., Director General of NSIB, emphasized, “The goal of this program is not just improving technical investigation skills but building capacity to manage Nigeria’s growing transportation infrastructure.” He also stressed the importance of integrating military personnel into the training, which strengthens collaboration and supports the country’s complex investigative needs.
This multimodal transport accident investigation training aligns with NSIB’s strategic goals of improving transparency in safety reports and proactively managing risks to prevent future incidents. Additionally, the programme supports Mr. Festus Keyamo’s vision for the aviation sector, which focuses on elevating safety standards, building capacity, and modernising protocols in line with global advancements. “The Honourable Minister’s vision is clear,” Captain Badeh Jr. emphasized. “He is focused on creating a safer, more efficient aviation industry.”
