No Injuries Sustained as Max Air Aircraft Loses Four Tyres During Takeoff

Max Air’s Boeing 737 aircraft experienced a bursting of its rear gear tyres during takeoff yesterday, resulting in an aborted takeoff. Subsequently, it lost an additional two tyres while attempting to taxi off the runway. This incident involved Max Air’s flight NGL1649, registered as 5N-ADB, cleared for takeoff from Yola Airport en route to Abuja.

The Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) provided more details. According to Mrs. Bimbo Oladeji, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NSIB. “This evening, Max Air’s Boeing 737, flight NGL1649, with registration 5N-ADB, carried 119 passengers and 6 crew members. The plane was cleared for takeoff from Yola Airport en route to Abuja. During the takeoff roll, the crew heard a loud bang. They identified it as the bursting of the rear gear tyres.”

 Initially, two tyres burst. While attempting to taxi off the runway, the remaining two tyres also burst, rendering the aircraft completely disabled.”

Fortunately, no one sustained injuries. Captain Alex Badeh Jr., the NSIB Director General, will lead a go-team to the incident site today to conduct an investigation.
