The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has launched a new centralized SADIS platform. This upgrade makes Nigeria a pioneer in modern aviation weather technology in Africa.

This innovative SADIS API replaces a legacy system with a modern, SWIM-compliant platform.
It delivers real-time, higher-resolution data to Nigerian aviation stakeholders.
This ensures secure, instant access to essential forecasts and charts. Ultimately, this supports safe, reliable, and cost-effective flight operations.
The SADIS API, operated by the UK Met Office under the remit of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), provides programmatic access to World Area Forecast System (WAFS) data sets and other critical meteorological information.
It replaces the legacy SADIS FTP system with a modern, System-Wide Information Management (SWIM)-compliant platform capable of delivering higher-resolution data in real-time.
How the SADIS Platform Enhances Safety
Director-General/CEO of NiMet, Professor Charles Anosike, praised the ICT team for their work. “This innovation shows NiMet’s leadership in modern technologies,” he said.
The upgraded platform ensures compliance with ICAO and WMO standards. It is a critical step in modernizing Nigeria’s aviation weather services.
The new system provides key aviation datasets. This includes WAFS Gridded Data and Operational Meteorological (OPMET) Data.
With this milestone, Nigeria is a leader in integrating modern technologies. Pilots and forecasters now have faster access to critical weather data.
This will ensure safer and more competitive flights nationwide.
