The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the International Rescue Committee (IRC) are enhancing their partnership. During IRC’s visit to NiMet headquarters in Abuja, Governance Coordinator Mrs. Dorcas Kingsley David and her team discussed expanding collaboration.

Professor Charles Anosike, NiMet’s Director General, highlighted potential areas for collaboration during Nigeria’s upcoming rainy season. Integrating NiMet’s climate predictions into IRC’s initiatives will foster direct feedback from farmers and communities.

Anosike emphasized joint research and document development to support socio-economic growth with climate-resilient data. He encouraged IRC to facilitate AI and data analytics training for NiMet staff through tech partnerships.

Mrs. Dorcas Kingsley David noted their collaboration since 2020, praising NiMet’s support. She sought NiMet’s assistance in conducting flood-trigger workshops, informing communities about flood expectations and safety measures.

“ We need further support on flood- trigger workshops from NiMet where we share information to the communities telling them what to expect and what to do if there is flood.

IRC wants to ensure that it partners properly with agencies such as NiMet in its work as weather and climate change continue to impact on the lives of people.” Mrs David concluded.
