NiMet, Global Green, NOAH ReGen Partner on Climate Data

“NiMet collaborates with over 70 million subsistence farmers in Nigeria,” said Professor Anosike. “We disseminate seasonal climate predictions to support agriculture. This climate data sharing initiative will enhance the Jatropha-To-Biofuel program.”

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has entered discussions with Global Green Development Group and NOAH ReGen. The collaboration focuses on the Jatropha-To-Biofuel program, aligning with global NetZero efforts under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.  This climate data sharing initiative will aid general data gathering and improve responses.

NetZero aims to balance greenhouse gas emissions with removal or offsetting. The goal is to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, limiting global warming to 1.5°C. This aligns with the Paris Agreement and SDG 13: Climate Action.

At a meeting on March 20, 2025, NiMet’s Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Charles Anosike, welcomed the partnership. He emphasized NiMet’s mandate to monitor atmospheric conditions, analyze data, and generate forecasts for socio-economic development.

“NiMet collaborates with over 70 million subsistence farmers in Nigeria,” said Professor Anosike. “We disseminate seasonal climate predictions to support agriculture. This climate data sharing initiative will enhance the Jatropha-To-Biofuel program.”

The partnership will also improve responses to climate disasters. Professor Anosike highlighted NiMet’s extensive ecosystem of climate change actors and partners. He reiterated the agency’s commitment to supporting sustainable development through data-driven solutions.

Mary Flowers, Chief Executive Officer of Global Green Development Group, stressed the importance of NiMet’s data. “We need your science and climate data, which spans over 100 years,” she said. “This climate data sharing initiative will accelerate our market readiness.”

Frederic Degret, Chief Executive Officer of NOAH ReGen, explained the program’s alignment with the Re’Planet Ecosystem. Launched with the United Nations World Tourism Organization, it focuses on nature-based assets and carbon credits.

The Jatropha-To-Biofuel program will be implemented in ten Nigerian states. It aims to produce sustainable biofuels, reduce carbon emissions, and create economic opportunities. The collaboration underscores the importance of data in achieving NetZero and sustainable development.

This partnership highlights NiMet’s pivotal role in climate action. By leveraging its data, NiMet supports global efforts to combat climate change. The climate data sharing initiative is a critical step toward a sustainable future.
