Managing Director of NAMA, Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, emphasized Nigeria’s role in enhancing air navigation and safety. Farouk led Nigeria’s delegation at the ICAO 14th Air Navigation Conference (AN-Conf/14) in Montreal, focusing on Nigeria’s airspace management policies.
The conference, themed “Performance Improvement Driving Sustainability,” addressed environmental challenges and aviation technology advancements. It served as a global platform for discussing air traffic management, safety, and operational efficiency.
Speaking at the conference, Engr. Umar stated, “The Air Navigation Conference is crucial to keeping Nigeria’s aviation sector aligned with global best practices.” He highlighted NAMA’s efforts in improving air traffic management and sustainability.
Experts’ discussions will generate recommendations for enhancing air navigation and safety, to be submitted to the ICAO Council for approval in 2025. This will influence Nigeria’s airspace management policies.
The ICAO delegation also includes Capt. Chris Najomo, Acting Director General of the NCAA, alongside key aviation stakeholders.
A key focus was ICAO’s long-term goal of net zero carbon emissions in international aviation by 2050. Nigeria is ready to adopt innovative solutions, ensuring environmental responsibility and safety.
The outcomes will inform the ICAO Business Plan (2023-2025), guiding future priorities for Nigeria’s regulatory framework.
Nigerian participation shows a strong commitment to an efficient, sustainable, and secure aviation industry. The strategies adopted will improve air traffic safety, security, and sustainability.
Through NAMA’s active involvement in AN-Conf/14, Nigeria is positioning itself as a global leader, ready to implement advanced air navigation practices.
