The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has extended its Contactless Biometric Passport System to four new countries. Nigerian citizens in the United States, Mexico, Jamaica and Brazil can now enjoy streamlined passport renewal. This development continues the NIS’s global digital transformation initiative.
Under Comptroller General Kemi Nanna Nandap’s leadership, the phased rollout began in the U.S. on April 11. The system will subsequently launch in Mexico, Jamaica and Brazil on April 14. This expansion follows successful implementations in Canada, Europe and Asia.
The Contactless Biometric Passport System currently operates through the NIS Mobile app on Android. An iOS version is scheduled for release shortly. Both platforms will receive enhanced updates to improve user experience. The system eliminates the need for physical biometrics enrollment.
Assistant Comptroller of Immigration AS Akinlabi emphasized the service’s benefits. “This innovation demonstrates our commitment to efficient, modern consular services,” he stated. The NIS plans further expansions to Australia and Nigeria later this year.
Diaspora Nigerians are encouraged to download the official app for passport renewals. The digital system significantly reduces processing times and eliminates travel to consulates. Future updates will include additional features and expanded country coverage.
