The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has pledged its full support. MMIA Customs Area Comptroller, Mr. Awe, committed to briefing shed heads and facilitating an interactive forum.
This inter-agency collaboration is a crucial step towards the seamless implementation of FAAN’s new approach.

FAAN’s Role in Port Charges

This new system marks a significant shift. For decades, the collection process was fragmented, leading to revenue loss and operational bottlenecks.
However, by taking ownership of the collection process, the airport manager is addressing a long-standing gap in the system.
The new process will also allow the government to properly allocate funds for infrastructure development.
The agreement was forged at a high-level meeting convened by the NCS.
Representatives from FAAN, Skyway Aviation Handling Company Plc (SAHCO), and Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc (NAHCO) were all in attendance.
Together, they aim to streamline cargo flow regulation, enhance revenue assurance, and build renewed confidence in Nigeria’s air cargo ecosystem.
This development signals a new and unified era for Nigeria’s air cargo ecosystem.
By taking ownership of the port charge collection, FAAN is strengthening its revenue streams, which are vital for airport maintenance and development.
The collaborative effort also promises to improve cargo flow regulation, enhance revenue assurance, and restore stakeholder confidence in the nation’s air cargo handling systems.
FAAN is expected to begin implementing these new access control measures shortly, with a dedicated electronic stakeholder engagement platform also in the works.
This transformation is poised to make cargo operations at MMIA more efficient, transparent, and profitable for the government and its partners.
