The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has strengthened bilateral ties with the Government of the Netherlands to advance NIS migration management tools and improve border control systems. This development followed a working visit to the Netherlands earlier this year by Comptroller General of Immigration, CGIS Kemi Nandap.

A Dutch delegation led by Chargé D’Affaires, Mr. J. Bartelink of the Netherlands Embassy visited NIS Headquarters in Abuja for a strategic meeting. The visit focused on enhancing collaboration on migration governance, capacity building, and the formal transfer of crucial operational resources.

Among the resources presented to the NIS were the Edison Software license keys and the Passport Examination Program Manual (PEPM III) application. These tools are designed to strengthen identity verification and support Nigeria’s migration policy objectives.

Mr. Bartelink reaffirmed the Netherlands’ continued commitment to Nigeria’s reform agenda in migration and border security. He commended the longstanding cooperation between both nations and stressed the need to sustain joint action on global migration issues.

Also present was Director of International Affairs, Mr. Rob Bokhoven, of the Netherlands Ministry of Justice and Security. He spoke on plans to deploy a mobile border software platform tailored for the NIS. According to him, the tool will deliver digital and innovative solutions to support real-time border surveillance and decision-making.

Responding to the handover, CGIS Nandap expressed appreciation for the Netherlands’ unwavering support. She emphasized that the PEPM III and Edison Software would play a major role in strengthening document verification and immigration intelligence.

She said these tools would also align with ongoing strategies under Nigeria’s National Migration Policy. According to her, NIS is committed to modernizing border operations through global best practices and the integration of smart technologies.

This latest engagement further consolidates the strategic relationship between Nigeria and the Netherlands. It affirms mutual interests in strengthening NIS migration management tools, enhancing migration governance, and deepening international cooperation for safer borders.
