NCAT Matriculates 200 Into OND, HND Aviation Programmes

The Nigeria College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, has officially matriculated 200 students into its 2024/2025 academic session. This marks another milestone in the institution’s commitment to aviation technical training standards.

The students were admitted into the college’s NBTE-accredited Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes. These courses are run under the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) and Aeronautical Telecommunications Engineering (ATE) Schools, which are central to NCAT’s core mandate.

The ceremony took place at NCAT’s main campus in Zaria. It was declared open by the Rector, Dr. Danjuma Ismaila, who was joined by heads of other tertiary institutions within the city.

Among those present were representatives from the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), the National Research Institute for Chemical Technology (NARICT), and the Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology (NILEST).

While addressing the matriculating students, Rector Dr. Danjuma Ismaila congratulated them on their successful admission. He described NCAT as Nigeria’s foremost aviation training college with global recognition.

He noted that aviation education is not only rigorous but also designed for global relevance. Therefore, students must be prepared to meet international benchmarks and expectations throughout their academic journey.

Dr. Ismaila reminded the students that all aviation programmes at NCAT are intensive and structured with global best practices in mind. He stressed that the minimum pass mark in aviation-related examinations is 75 percent.

This, he explained, is part of the strict aviation technical training standards maintained by NCAT. These standards are necessary to ensure the competence and safety of future aviation professionals.

Moreover, the Rector encouraged students to attend all classes, participate fully in practical sessions, and follow the academic calendar religiously. He warned against truancy, absenteeism, and casual attitudes toward technical learning.

In addition, he advised students to shun all social vices, including cultism, drug abuse, and exam malpractice. According to him, discipline, hard work, and integrity are essential to success in the aviation industry.

Dr. Ismaila further assured parents and guardians that the safety and welfare of all students remain top priorities for the college. NCAT’s facilities, he said, are constantly upgraded to create a safe, secure, and conducive learning environment.

“Our institution prioritizes safety, both in learning environments and in aviation simulations,” he said. “You are in capable hands.”

Over the years, NCAT has become a vital centre for training licensed engineers, technicians, air traffic controllers, and flight dispatchers. The college plays a key role in reducing Nigeria’s dependence on foreign aviation expertise.

Notably, both the AME and ATE Schools are equipped with modern training aids, including aircraft simulators, avionics labs, and state-of-the-art workshops. These tools allow students to acquire practical skills that match current industry demands.

Importantly, the college continues to attract international students from across West and Central Africa, further enhancing its reputation and diversity. Its affiliation with global aviation bodies ensures its programmes are regularly reviewed and aligned with current technologies.
