Murtala Muhammed Airport 2 prioritizes regional flights, revamps technology-driven interline and slot allocation for airlines, enhancing overall efficiency.
Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited, MMA2 operators, shared insights with journalists on their immediate goals.
Speaking to reporters, Remi Jibodu, Head of Aeronautical and Cargo Services, highlighted the advantages of initiating regional operations at MMA2. He emphasized the tripartite benefits for FAAN, passengers, and the terminal operator.
“ Domestic airlines are really suffering. Of you are going to Accra for instance, you have to taxi from domestic to international to come and psrk because of the parking fee. And this is something you can do seamlessly from here.” He said.
“Secondly, the customers coming from Accra may want to transit to another state. They have to come from International to domestic, some come early and wait for a longer time before they go.”
Jibowu underlined the potential of interline operations to minimize delays, ensuring passengers remain unaffected.
“ We are discussing interline with the airlines. The delays here and there are because the interline is not working perfectly. The passenger shouldn’t know an airline cannot operate. Seamlessly, they should be able to transfer to another airline. We are looking at how to put this together with the aid of technology.” Jibodu said.
Regarding slot allocation, BASL is actively engaging with airlines, providing empirical evidence of its advantages.
“ We plan to use slots majorly to organise scheduling properly. Everyone doesn’t need to fly at the same time. We are trying to use technology so that in terms of parking we can use the slot system and arrange people properly.”
