The incident follows a similar altercation in December 2024, where another staff member was assaulted. BASL emphasized that such recurring acts are unacceptable and will be met with strict legal consequences.

A male passenger physically assaulted an Aviation Security (AVSEC) officer during a chaotic scene at Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2) on Sunday, April 20, 2025. The attack occurred around 1318hrs as airport staff worked to manage tensions sparked by a system glitch at one of the terminal’s airline check-in counters. This attack rehashes the terminal operator’s zero-violence tolerance policy.

While efforts were underway to defuse the situation, the passenger attacked the AVSEC officer, drawing swift intervention from terminal authorities. The individual was immediately apprehended and handed over to the police for investigation and prosecution.

In response to the incident, Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), operators of MMA2, strongly reiterated its zero-violence tolerance policy in the terminal, especially against personnel carrying out official duties.

“This attack is a stark reminder of the dangers our staff face while ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers,” said Ajoke Yinka-Olawuyi, Head of Corporate Communications at BASL. “We will not tolerate any form of aggression and are committed to ensuring the offender is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

The incident follows a similar altercation in December 2024, where another staff member was assaulted. BASL emphasized that such recurring acts are unacceptable and will be met with strict legal consequences.

“All terminal users must understand that grievances should be addressed through appropriate channels. Our staff are here to help and must be treated with dignity and respect,” Yinka-Olawuyi stressed.

BASL also assured the public of its commitment to a safe and secure environment at MMA2, pledging continuous collaboration with security agencies to uphold zero-tolerance policy against violence at the facility.
