The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has achieved about 70 percent completion of its certification process under a new ISO Policy, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to quality, safety, and environmental sustainability.
FAAN disclosed that external auditors will arrive in November to assess compliance and close identified gaps, with full certification targeted by December 2025.
This was made known in a statement by the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr. Henry Agbebire.

Integrated ISO Policy Combines Two Global Standards
FAAN’s new ISO Policy integrates two globally recognised standards, ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) and ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System (EMS), into a single operational framework.
Through this system, the Authority aims to institutionalise a culture of service quality, operational safety, and sustainable practice across all airports under its management.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive of FAAN, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, represented by the Director of Human Resources and Administration, Dr. Luqman Emiola unveiled the policy during a ceremony held on Monday, October 21, 2025.
In her opening remarks, the Director of Special Duties, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, explained that the ISO audit process is designed to measure FAAN’s adherence to quality standards and operational conduct. She noted that the process places strong emphasis on customer satisfaction and environmental responsibility, both of which are central to the new framework.
She highlighted that the ISO Policy reinforces FAAN’s transformation drive and aligns its airport management systems with international best practices.
“The ISO Policy reinforces the operational principle that if it is not documented, it is considered not done,” Mrs. Kuku stated. “It provides FAAN with a working document for internal audits across directorates, ensuring every action reflects our commitment to quality, safety, and environmental stewardship.”
In his goodwill message, Mr. Agbebire commended the Managing Director, FAAN Management, and the Directorate of Special Duties for driving the initiative. He reaffirmed Management’s commitment to embedding quality, safety, and sustainability across all operations and pledged continued support until full certification is achieved.
FAAN reiterated that its ISO Policy underscores a wider organisational mission to operate airports that are safe, secure, efficient, and environmentally responsible. The Authority also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the environment, supporting host communities, and providing a conducive workplace for its employees.
In his closing remarks, the General Manager, Special Duties, appreciated FAAN Management for their consistent support and highlighted the long-term benefits of ISO certification to both the Authority and Nigeria’s aviation industry.
