The approval was announced in a joint communique issued after a meeting on February 25, 2025, in Abuja. Signed by Assistant General Manager (Legal) NNRA, Mr. Jamil Salau, on behalf of Director-General/CEO NNRA, Dr. Yau Usman Idris, the communique stated that NAHCO is now authorized to manage radioactive materials shipments. Importers and exporters previously affected by the embargo can now utilize NAHCO’s services.

The meeting, held at NNRA headquarters, focused on implementing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on September 1, 2023. Key resolutions included adopting NNRA’s implementation plan, forming a technical working group, and developing a joint action plan with timelines. Additionally, both agencies agreed to commence joint training programs, conduct emergency preparedness drills, and harmonize licensing processes.

NAHCO’s Group Executive Director, Prince Saheed Lasisi, hailed the approval for radioactive materials as a breakthrough for importers and exporters facing challenges with such shipments. He emphasized NAHCO’s commitment to supporting international airlines and IOCs in moving critical shipments.

Group Managing Director/CEO NAHCO, Mr. Olumuyiwa Olumekun, expressed gratitude to NCAA and NNRA for the approval. He assured that NAHCO has implemented rigorous processes to ensure full compliance with safety standards, handled by highly trained professionals.

This development positions NAHCO as a key player in handling specialized shipments, boosting Nigeria’s aviation and logistics sectors.
