The Awards Committee explained that Prof Anosike’s recognition followed a detailed evaluation of institutional performance, service quality, and reform implementation. They stressed that BusinessDay is increasingly spotlighting public leaders who adopt evidence-based strategies. Therefore, the committee viewed his tenure at NiMet as an example of how scientific leadership can influence governance, economic planning, and climate adaptation. They also highlighted the relevance of NiMet’s recent digital upgrades, which have improved early warning systems and boosted inter-agency cooperation.

The BusinessDay ceremony also highlighted the broader national push for performance-driven public institutions. As part of the lecture series, speakers discussed the importance of good governance, transparency, and modernisation in reshaping Nigeria’s public sector. They argued that leaders like Prof Anosike provide a blueprint for how agencies can reposition themselves for future challenges. Therefore, his recognition served not only as a personal honour but also as an affirmation of NiMet’s evolving mandate.

Several other distinguished public officials were also acknowledged at the event. The Hon Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, received recognition for his oversight of aviation reforms and his contributions to sectoral policy stability. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, was honoured for strengthening communication frameworks across government, while the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, was celebrated for advancing Nigeria’s global diplomatic engagement. Their presence illustrated the broad range of public leadership celebrated by BusinessDay in 2025.

The event highlighted renewed call for public institutions to embrace digital transformation and uphold strict service standards. Organisers reaffirmed that BusinessDay will continue to spotlight leaders who demonstrate integrity, strategic focus, and measurable impact. Prof Anosike’s recognition therefore stands as a reminder of the critical role that climate intelligence plays in national development and future planning. It also reinforces NiMet’s position as a leading technical agency committed to safety, sustainability, and citizen-centred service.
