
Bowen University has conferred an Honorary Doctorate on Capt. Edward Boyo, Chief Executive Officer of Landover Company and Managing Director of Overland Airways, for his outstanding contributions to aviation and exceptional leadership.
The prestigious award, Doctor of Business Administration (Honoris Causa), was presented during the University’s 20th Convocation Ceremony held in Iwo, Osun State. The recognition celebrates Capt. Boyo’s decades of visionary leadership in driving Overland Airways to become one of Nigeria’s most reliable and respected airlines.
The Honorary Doctorate citation described Capt. Boyo as a trailblazer “whose contributions to the aviation sector inspire excellence, innovation, and leadership.” Dignitaries, family, and friends attended the event, including His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwo Land, and senior executives of Landover Company and Overland Airways.
Capt. Boyo expressed deep gratitude to Bowen University for the honour. “I am delighted to receive this recognition and thank the University leadership for this privilege,” he said. “This Honorary Doctorate will motivate me to continue contributing to Nigeria’s air transport industry and to our economy. I remain committed to excellence and to building strong institutions that promote professionalism and growth.”
Mrs. Aduke Atiba, Executive Director of Landover Company and Overland Airways Limited, congratulated Capt. Boyo, describing his leadership as transformational. She noted that his dedication to innovation and safety continues to inspire both staff and industry colleagues. Her submission: the Honorary Doctorate is well-deserved.
At the ceremony, Capt. Boyo presented a Master’s Degree scholarship and a cash award to Miss Lotechukwu Ikpo, the University’s best graduating student with a 5.00 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). His gesture reinforced his belief in youth empowerment and educational advancement.
Capt. Boyo is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Overland Airways, an International Air Transport Association (IATA) member airline. Overland Airways operates scheduled and charter flights across Nigeria and West Africa, pioneering services to emerging destinations and supporting regional connectivity. The airline is renowned for safety, reliability, and service excellence.
He is also the Founder and Managing Director of Landover Company Limited, a leading African aviation services firm headquartered in Lagos. The company, established over three decades ago, provides a range of aviation and logistics solutions across the continent.
Capt. Boyo is the Publisher of Aviation & Allied Business Journal, Africa’s foremost publication on aviation development since 1992. He also convenes the Aviation & Allied Business Leadership Conference, one of Africa’s most respected aviation forums.
As a professional pilot and instructor, Capt. Boyo has trained and mentored numerous aviation professionals through the Landover Aviation Business School (LABS), accredited by both the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA). He also served as Chairman of the Board at the International Aviation College, Ilorin, providing helicopter and fixed-wing pilot training in West Africa.
A seasoned aviation leader, Capt. Boyo holds an Airline Transport Pilot License, a Flight Engineering License from the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and a Pilot Instructor’s Certificate from Oxford Air Training School in the United Kingdom. He also holds a degree in Business Management from the University of Lagos and is an alumnus of the Lagos Business School Chief Executive Programme.
Capt. Boyo continues to play a strategic role in aviation development across Africa. He serves as the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) Ambassador for West Africa, promoting liberalisation and connectivity under the African Union initiative.
Beyond aviation, he is passionate about philanthropy, entrepreneurship, and human capital development. Through his companies, Capt. Boyo has provided employment opportunities for Nigerians and international professionals while supporting educational and community initiatives.
His Honorary Doctorate from Bowen University is a testament to a lifelong commitment to excellence, innovation, and service to Africa’s aviation growth.
