Nigeria and Canada have formalized a landmark codeshare aviation agreement. This pact enhances cooperation between their airlines. It allows airlines to market and sell seats on each other’s flights. Passengers gain seamless travel options under a single airline’s code.
The agreement was signed at the Ministry of Aviation headquarters in Abuja. Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, signed on behalf of Nigeria. Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Pasquale Salvaggio, witnessed the signing of the agreement, representing Canada. The event marked a milestone in bilateral aviation relations.
In a statement, Head of Press and Public Affairs, Odutayo Oluseyi, shared details. Minister Keyamo clarified it is not a full Bilateral Air Services Agreement. Instead, it is a codeshare arrangement. Nigerian airlines will collaborate with Canadian carriers under this deal. This partnership will improve flexibility and connectivity for passengers.
Keyamo thanked Canadian authorities for their cooperation. He noted his Canadian counterpart had signed part of the agreement earlier. To save costs, Keyamo signed the remaining portion in Nigeria. He emphasized the deal strengthens Nigeria-Canada aviation ties significantly.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, praised Keyamo’s efforts. He commended the Minister’s proactive leadership in advancing Nigeria’s aviation sector. Kana welcomed Salvaggio, highlighting Nigeria’s role as Canada’s top economic partner in Africa. He expressed confidence the deal will benefit both nations.
Canadian High Commissioner Pasquale Salvaggio thanked the Nigerian government. He expressed pride in witnessing the signing of the agreement. Salvaggio reiterated Canada’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Nigeria. He pledged continued support for initiatives boosting cooperation between both countries.
