The African Development Bank Group greenlights a $23.6 million loan for Kigali, Rwanda’s new aviation training facility.
“The Bank’s financial support speaks to our commitment to investing iman capital,” stated Dr. Beth Dunford, the Bank’s Vice President for Agriculture, Human and Social Development.
The Centre of Excellence for Aviation Skills (CEAS) aligns with Rwanda’s Vision 2050, focusing on high-quality training and workforce transformation.
CEAS, operational from 2025, aims to enroll 500 students, offering diverse aviation training, including pilots, maintenance, cabin crew, and ancillary courses.
Industry demand underscores the necessity, with projections of over 50,000 aviation professionals required in the next two decades.
Nnenna Nwabufo, the Bank’s Director General for East Africa, emphasized the project’s role in enhancing skills across East Africa.
Dr. Martha Phiri, the Bank’s Director for Human Capital, stressed the diverse and sustainable employment opportunities in aviation for Africa’s youth.
The construction phase of the project will employ up to 1,000 workers, creating 98 jobs during the operational phase. Proximity to Kigali International Airport enhances connectivity.
