“Our improved capabilities and ongoing upgrades are attracting significant attention from airlines looking to reduce costs and turnaround times by carrying out their heavy maintenance checks within Africa,” Ominyi said.

Continental Credibility and Approvals

The Lagos-based facility is certified by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and endorsed by several international regulators, including those of Ghana, Mongolia, and Senegal.

These approvals affirm compliance with global aviation standards and strengthen Aero’s credibility with both African and non-African operators.

At the Kigali event, Aero Contractors’ delegation was led by senior management including Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Charles Grant; Head AMO, Engr. James Ominyi; Technical Director, Engr. Emmanuel Adeyeye; GM Rotary Wing, Engr. Garba Mouktar; and Aero MRO Business Development Manager, Mr. Adeyemi Adewojo.

Aero’s achievements are backed by the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON). The agency has committed to resolving its aviation portfolio while positioning Aero’s MRO as a continental hub.

This support has allowed Aero MRO to continue scaling and upgrading facilities in line with international expectations, including preparation for European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) certification.

The Aero MRO facility is among the most advanced in West and Central Africa, offering a wide range of services:

Line and Base Maintenance for Boeing 737 Classics and NGs, as well as regional jets and turboprops.

Helicopter Maintenance for scheduled and unscheduled checks, including the AW139 and other rotary platforms.

Workshops covering wheels and brakes, batteries, upholstery, structural repairs, and avionics, all being upgraded to global standards.

These upgrades underline Aero’s determination to reduce dependence on overseas maintenance, keeping aviation value and jobs within Africa.

Serving Regional and International Operators

Aero MRO has delivered base maintenance services to PassionAir of Ghana, Transair of Senegal, and several Nigerian carriers. It also provides line maintenance for Royal Air Maroc, while its rotary-wing division supports offshore oil and gas operators.

This mix of fixed-wing and rotary capability demonstrates Aero’s versatility in addressing the diverse needs of the African aviation market.

Charles Grant, Chief Financial Officer of Aero Contractors, said the company is drawing on its long history to shape the future of African aviation.

“With over six decades of aviation heritage, Aero is building on its legacy to serve the next generation of African operators,” Grant said.

“Our upgraded MRO is a clear signal that Africa has the expertise and infrastructure to sustain its aviation industry locally, while saving costs, creating jobs, and retaining value on the continent.”

By combining international approvals, modern facilities, and trusted expertise, Aero MRO is positioning itself as a critical maintenance partner for Africa’s aviation growth.
