NiMet emphasizes the importance for airline operators to stay informed by utilizing their weather reports for effective operational planning. The observed dust haze originating from the source region has prompted this alert.

Stations in the source region, including Chad (Faya-Largeau, Bol-Berim, Mongo, Abeche, and Ndjamena), report horizontal visibility between 800m and 4000m. Bordering Niger sources (Diffa, Maine-Soroa, Goure, Bila, Maradi, Zinder, and Birni-n-Konni) have reported poor visibility due to dust haze ranging from 1000m to 3000m in the last 24 hours.

Strong winds are expected to carry the suspended dust to northern states, further reducing horizontal visibility. NiMet anticipates moderate to poor horizontal visibility, particularly over Katsina, Kano, Nguru, Jigawa, Potiskum, and Maiduguri in the next 24 hours.

NiMet assures the public of continued weather monitoring, promising timely updates as necessary.
