INFORMATION reaching Nigerianflightdeck is that the Instrument Landing System / Distance Measuring Equipment (ILS/DME) at the domestic runway of the Murtala Muhammed Airport ( 18L) has been calibrated and is certified serviceable.
Nigerianflightdeck also learnt reliably that the airspace managers are calibrating the Category 3 glide at 18R of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport ( MMIA) with results from that calibration expected to trickle in either this evening or tomorrow.
Recall that the CAT 3 ILS/DME at the international airport, according to the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika had an unserviceable component which led to the multiple flight diversions, notably by foreign airlines to Ghana.
A source close to the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency ( NAMA) confirmed the calibration of the domestic ILS/DME
In a brief response, the source said,” “18L Instrument Landing System/Distance measuring Equipment (ILS/DME) Cat 2 has been calibrated. As soon as certificate is signed by the flight engineer in the next hour or so, it will be sent as Notice to Airmen ( NOTAM) accordingly.
The ILS/DME at the domestic runway is serviceable 100% and has no problems. It was calibrated with the King Airb305i procured by government for that for that purpose,” he explained.
However, there is no confirmation yet on the status of the Cat 3 ILS/ DME of 18R at the international wing that was the reason for last week’s multiple diversion but a source said calibration is ongoing and in an advanced stage.
According to our source, probably due to the ruckus the Cat III ILS caused work is going on under wraps and the status may be announced barring any hitches.
