THE Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) says sniffer dogs, bomb detectors and security operatives have been deployed to all airports across the country to ensure hitch free celebrations.
The general manager public affairs of FAAN, Mrs Henrietta Yakubu who disclosed this in an interview, assured members of the public, especially passengers and airline operators, that necessary operational and security measures have been put in place at all our airports to ensure hitch-free movement of passengers and cargo during the forthcoming yuletide holidays.
While advising air travellers in the country to adhere strictly to airport rules and regulations in order to have seamless trips during and after the Yuletide, Mrs Yakubu said giant generator sets have been installed across major airports to boost power supply.
“Passenger facilitation at all our airports has also been enhanced by the upgrade of power installations, installation of modern and bigger conveyor belts and metal walk-through detectors, servicing of lifts and escalators. Stringent measures are being taken to eradicate the menace of touts and other unwholesome activities around the terminals”
According to Mrs Yakubu, intending air passengers should plan their trip very well by booking ahead to avoid unnecessary delays.
She also cautioned passengers not to carry on board prohibited items such as liquids and inflammable items stressing that such items must be checked – in as adding that failure to do so will attract seizure at check-in points.
Mrs Yakubu further advised travellers to secure their luggage and should not be left in the hands of anyone at the airport adding that any luggage left unattended will be destroyed by security agents.
She said FAAN in line with the zero tolerance on touting has stepped up patrol within and around the airports to ensure that no single tout was operating at airports.
Mrs Yakubu appealed to passengers to bear with FAAN as a result of the pains and inconveniences being encountered as a result of the construction of the new terminal.
She wished all travellers the best of the festive periods.
