Women in Aviation charge female students to embrace aviation

OVER hundred female students in primary, secondary schools and churches were present as President of Women in Aviation International, (WIA) Nigeria, Mrs. Rejoice Ndudinachi urged them to show more interest in aviation activities in order to propel the country forward and reduce the number of expatriates in the industry.
Mrs. Ndudinachi gave this advice over the weekend at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, (MMIA) Lagos in her welcome address, during the celebration of the second anniversary of Girls in Aviation Day.’
The one day event exposed females to various opportunities in the industry with numerous speakers tutoring them on how to choose a career in the sector.
Ndudinachi informed students to take up any of the technical professions in the industry, stressing that there are several potential for female girl in Nigeria.
She recalled that the industry was formerly male dominated, but the past few years had seen radical changes in the sector and today, females have excelled in various fields in the sector while some of them are Chief Executive Officers, CEOs in various organizations in the sector.
She explained that Women in Aviation, Nigeria Chapter created the platform primarily to see participants interacting with their role models and also wanted to present an opportunity for them to consider aviation as they make their college and career plans.
She added, “Today, we introduced girls to role models, trained them on various aviation related skills and placed them in supportive atmosphere to encourage them to take up careers in aviation.
“One of the objectives of women in aviation Nigeria is to encourage the young ones to build up their future in aviation. Women in aviation is committed to supporting and ensuring that young girls are inspired to take up careers in aviation. We have been doing a lot and will continue to do more with your support.”
Also speaking at the event, a staff of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NIMET, Mrs. Oluyemisi Adetunji, who emphasized on the importance of weather to safe aviation.
Adetunji informed that weather plays a major role in ensuring safety in the air, stressing that in order to avoid accident, airlines and pilots get regular weather briefings from NIMET.
“No pilot flies the aircraft without getting weather forecast from NIMET. So, NIMET is very important to safety in the industry,” she said.
She however advised students hoping to take up career in the sector to perform creditably well in all science subjects, noting that the industry was for brilliant students.
Another speaker, Capt. Tolu Itah encouraged participating students to be more serious in their academics and lauded women in aviation Nigeria for the exposure it’s giving students in the country.
Also, an Air Traffic Controller, ATC, Mrs. Eunice Fatokun and Squadron Leader, Nigerian Air Force, Mrs. Stella Paul-Udoh urged students to show more interest in aviation activities.
The participants were taken on guarded tours of the airside of Lagos Airport, Air Peace aircraft and facilities and NIMET forecast office at the airport.
The climax of the event was the presentation of awards to deserving individuals and corporate organizations that have distinguished themselves in the last one year in the industry.
