United Airlines will increase its Lagos to Washington D.C. flights from three times weekly to daily service starting 4 December 2024 and ending on 14 February 2025. This schedule adjustment will boost seat capacity by 133%, marking the first time daily flights will be available on this route. After the winter season, United will return to its previous three-times-weekly schedule. However, further expansion is possible as markets change.

The flight remains the only night-time departure from Lagos to the U.S., providing passengers with flexible travel options. Customers in Nigeria will also benefit from convenient daytime connections to over 70 destinations across the Americas.

Since 2021, United has operated Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft on this route. The Dreamliner includes 28 United PolarisSM business class lie-flat seats, 21 United Premium PlusSM premium economy seats, 36 Economy PlusSM seats, and 158 standard economy seats. This ensures a variety of seating options for comfort. The aircraft’s large windows, spacious overhead storage, and modern LED lighting help passengers adjust during the transatlantic flight.

Thorsten Lettnin, Director of Sales for Continental Europe, India, Israel, the Middle East, and Africa, proudly highlighted United’s products. He also stated, “To succeed in Africa, you must offer your best product and remain consistent.” Moreover, Lettnin emphasized United’s ongoing commitment to the African market.

Similarly, Oluwatomi Bola-Sadipe, United’s Country Sales Manager for Nigeria, Ghana, and South Africa, expressed excitement about the upcoming flight increase. He further added, “Africa remains a crucial part of United’s global network.” Additionally, he mentioned that the Dreamliner will provide more travel choices for U.S. getaways.

United Airlines will operate three times weekly on the Lagos to Washington D.C. route until 3 December 2024, with flights scheduled on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The flight, UA613, departs Lagos at 23:50 and arrives in Washington at 5:55 the next day. From 4 December 2024 to 14 February 2025, the service will increase to daily flights. UA612 from Washington to Lagos operates three times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, departing at 18:30. It arrives in Lagos at 10:40 the next day. This schedule continues until 2 December 2024. From 3 December 2024 to 13 February 2025, the service will shift to daily flights.

After 14 February 2025, United will revert to its original schedule of three weekly flights. However, according to Bola-Sadipe, the airline may consider further expansion as market demands evolve.

Starting 25 October 2024, United will also become the only airline offering nonstop flights from Marrakesh, Morocco, to the U.S. The airline already operates several key African routes, including Cape Town to New York/Newark and Washington D.C., Johannesburg to New York/Newark, and Accra to Washington D.C. This expansion underscores United’s ongoing commitment to enhancing connectivity across Africa and providing more travel options for passengers. All flight times are local and subject to change.
