AVIATION agencies have expressed commitment to participate in the Tourism Transport Summit/Expo being anchored by the Institute of Tourism Practitioners (ITP) for the Ministries of Transportation and Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism.
Agencies like Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA),Nigerian Meteorological Agency,Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria and the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) will participate in the summit with theme: ‘Tourism and Transportation: The Key Sectors for Sustainable Resilient Growth and Development’
In a statement signed by the organizers of the event, Institute of Tourism Practitioners (ITP), the two-day summit is the first edition in a series to be organized annually and is scheduled to hold at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Abuja from 21st – 22nd May, 2018.
The statement further highlighted that transportation and tourism is predicted to be one of the world’s highest growing sectors in the new century, creating more jobs and increasing the GDP of most countries of the world.
The organizers went on to further state that the Summit and Expo are created to build strong synergy and chart the way forward to grow and enhance the two sectors.
Other Sub themes of the Summit that includes Potentialities of Developing Regional Inter-Connectivity in Transportation and Inter-Modal Connectivity, Traveler Safety and Security; Licensing Regulations and Oversight–Meeting the International Standards for Sustainable Development of the Transportation and Tourism Industries; and Building Capacity for Global Best Practices in the Tourism and Transportation Sectors.
The statement in part read, “This is because the event offers a unique opportunity for policymakers, entrepreneurs, and key players in the tourism and transport sectors of the economy to engage in an all-inclusive discourse aimed at creating synergy, collaboration and connective inter-play between the two sectors for the maximum economic benefit of the country whose focus at the moment is on diversification to other highly productive sectors which the transportation and tourism readily provide.”
“The Tourism Transport Summit and Expo would also deliberate on the complex relationships between transport provision and tourism hinged on global perspectives in forging a mutual relationship between the two sectors reappraise and have a better understanding of the importance of tourism and transportation to the economy, and their impact on employment generation at this crucial period of high level of unemployment.”
The events as a whole offers a unique opportunity for policy makers, regulators, entrepreneurs, key players in both the tourism and transport sectors of the economy, investors, numerous esteemed customers and the general public estimated at 3,000 to engage in an All-Participatory discourse aimed at chatting the desired synergy, collaboration and connective inter-play between the two sectors for maximum economic benefits of the country.
The event will bring together critical stakeholders in the Nigerian transport sector such as the Nigeria Shippers Council (NSC), Nigerian Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Nigerian Railway Cooperation (NRC), Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITI), Nigerian Port Authority (NPA), Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the National Clearing and Forwarding Agency (NCFA) among others.
