The Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has stated that no debris or bodies recovered since the initial three bodies were retrieved. However, divers have successfully secured a designated diving area at the expected location of the Sikorsky SK76 helicopter wreck site.

In an update, the NSIB reported suspending search operations around 6:15 PM on October 25, 2024, due to diminishing daylight. Public statements indicate the Sikorsky SK76 helicopter’s Electronic Location Transmitter (ELT) was inactive at the time of the accident. Despite this, NSIB divers have created a secured diving perimeter to guide the next steps in the operation. The perimeter, measured at a depth of 40-50 meters, will also support the deployment of additional equipment. Read Also: Sikorsky SK76 Helicopter: Bodies Recovered as NSIB Launches Investigation

According to Mrs. Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, NSIB’s Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance, “On the morning of October 25, 2024, at 07:30 AM local time, rescue teams resumed search operations. “She She confirmed they expanded the search area to locate potential debris or signs of survivors.

“A team of NSIB Aviation Safety Investigators and representatives from the Ministry arrived at the Nuim Antan facility at 11:30 AM local time,” she stated, adding that investigators conducted critical interviews with relevant staff. This information gathering supports the ongoing investigation. The team departed the facility after completing on-site interviews around 3:24 PM.

As evening approached, search efforts ceased at approximately 6:15 PM due to low visibility. Although divers found no debris, bodies, or survivors, they established a secure diving perimeter at the wreck site for tomorrow’s operations. This perimeter, confirmed at a depth of 40-50 meters, will enable additional resources to support the upcoming operational phase.

Captain Alex Badeh Jr. NSIB DG, acknowledged the relentless dedication of the combined rescue teams and supportive partners. He said, “We appreciate the tireless efforts of all involved. We will continue these operations with every resource necessary and appreciate the cooperation and patience of all stakeholders involved.”
