Professor Charles Anosike, Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, emphas itized that meteorological services enable military operations in all conditions. He shared this during the Annual Civil-Military Conference at the National Defence College, Abuja, on September 10, 2024. The conference, themed “Whole-of-Society Approach to National Security and Development,” aimed to consolidate gains from last year’s edition.
During his keynote address, Anosike, Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the World Meteorological Organization, stressed the importance of collaboration for national security. He explained that meteorological services enable military operations by ensuring timely and accurate weather information, essential for land, air, and sea missions. Additionally, these services enhance public trust and counter misinformation.
“These ( meteorological) solutions enable our military forces to operate effectively in all conditions, whether on land, water, or air, where weather information is necessary”, he remarked.
NiMet remains committed to supporting the Armed Forces by providing reliable weather data and climate-smart solutions. Prof. Anosike also highlighted the agency’s work in building human capacity to address climate change impacts and extreme weather events.
“It is crucial to issue warnings early, ensure people are aware of them, take action quickly, and, most importantly, establish policies that incentivize and facilitate the right actions in response to climate change”, Prof. Anosike concluded.
